Come to Grace Episcopal-Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 13 Court Street in Cortland on Sunday, November 13 at 3 PM to enjoy a piano performance by two world-recognized pianists. Xak Bjerken and Miri Yampolsky will open the eighth season of the The Arts at Grace series. The pianists will perform both classical and modern compositions. The audience is invited to meet the performers at an informal reception following the concert. There is no charge for admission.

Bjerken will play Robert Schumann's "Papillons, op. 2" and Franz Schubert's "Three Piano Pieces, D. 946". Yampolsky will perform Robert Schumann's "Sonata in G minor, op. 22". The artists together will play Schubert's "A Major Rondo" and Steven Stucky’s "Allegretto quasi Andantino (Schubert Dream)" that is based on the Schubert Rondo.

Pianist Xak Bjerken received his graduate degrees from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore where he studied and worked with Leon Fleisher. He has appeared with orchestras and performed in famous concert halls throughout the United States and Europe. He appears nationally with the Los Angeles Piano Quartet. He and Steven Stucky co-direct Ensemble X, a new music ensemble. In addition to chamber music residencies and teaching in several prestigious music festivals, Bjerken is an active recording artist. He is Professor of Music at Cornell University where with his wife Miri Yampolsky he directs Mayfest, an international chamber music festival (www.mayfest-cornell.org).

Israeli pianist and Cornell University music faculty member Miri Yampolsky made her orchestral debut as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and maestro Zubin Mehta at the age of 16. Since then, she has appeared with prominent orchestras in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the United States. A first prize winner of the Jose Iturbi International Piano Competition in Valencia, and the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Ms. Yampolsky is an avid and active chamber musician who appears in festivals throughout the United States and Europe. She has studied with several famous teachers including Leon Fisher in Baltimore.

The Arts at Grace is a community outreach of Grace Episcopal-Holy Spirit Lutheran Church that is supported by individuals, businesses, and foundations from the greater Cortland community. It also receives funding through the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grants. To make fine music accessible for all, there is no admission charge for any events in the series.
